Allegro's Summer Workshops
Allegro’s full summer brochure will be available on March 16th. Following is a list of workshops and classes that will be offered. Summer registration will begin on March 16th at the studio. The summer session will run June 8-July 31. A $10 registration fee needs to accompany each student’s enrollment.
Ballet and Modern Intensive

Allegro School of Dance and Music is pleased to host a ballet, pointe and modern intensive workshop by guest artist Constance Dinapoli, a Rochester native, who grew up dancing at the Rochester Ballet School. This workshop will afford the upper level ballet students the opportunity of growth and enrichment right here at our home studio. Mrs. Dinapoli is an Assistant Professor at George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts Dance Department in Fairfax, Va. There will be a performance at the end (Friday, July 31st)
Master Class Wtih a Real Live New York City Rockette!

$40Have you ever seen the eye-high leg kicks, precision dance, enthusiasm, and vigor of the Rockettes ? Allegro is pleased to offer a master class for one night by Candace Jablonski, a current New York City Rockette. This would be a great opportunity to expand your repertoire of master classes.

The lost art form of baton twirling comes to life at Allegro with Kathy Chase. Learn figure 8’s, horizontal twirls, marching and dance twirl skills. Wear a leotard, tight fitted shorts, no tights, dance shoes (if you have them) or cotton socks. You must order your baton at time of registration. The last class will be a performance at Homestead Senior Center.
Zumba!

Enjoy the energizing rhythms of salsa, merengue, flamenco and more in this Latin dance fitness class lead by Heather Christy. No dance experience necessary. Wear comfortable workout clothes and indoor sneakers (teacher approved) or dance shoes. Come feel the music and have a blast!
The Princess Studio

Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Tinkerbelle are the inspiration for this workshop. After daily class, the star quality of each princess will be explored through music, dance, literature, and art projects. A “mini luncheon” will be served each day. All parents are invited to a soiree at 11:45 am on Friday, June 19 to observe their little princesses’ performance.
Mother/Daughter Belly Dance (closed)

Looking for something fun to do with your daughter this summer? Join Sadiya for a mother/daughter belly dance camp. Belly dance fosters physical health, self esteem, positive body image and self confidence. Learn the ancient art of belly dance, passed from mother to daughter in its countries of origin. Each session will be filled with dance, crafts, games, and history of Middle Eastern dance. Family and friends are invited to attend a studio showing on Monday, July 27, at 7:45.

Dive into four of today’s most popular partnership dances~Salsa, Swing, Waltz & Tango. You’ve watched them on TV: “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dancing With the Stars’ Ballroom Kids Competition.” Ballroom & Latin dancing is the newest trend for kids today-even boys think it’s cool! You will learn a dance each day, from the basics to more flashy steps, plus we’ll cover history, clothing, technique, style and social etiquette. We will create a short routine for each dance and put them all together for a performance on Friday at 3:15. This is dancing you will use for a lifetime. Boys are strongly encouraged to try this class-they’ll have a blast! No partner is necessary.
Adventures in Fairytales

Travel back in time and experience classic books that have inspired dancers for years. Dancers come together to explore Jack in the Beanstalk, Hansel & Gretel, Henny Penny, and Goldilocks through a craft, story, and dance. Busy dancers will also enjoy a daily snack. A mini-performance will be presented to parents at 11:45 am sharp on Friday, July 10.
Dance Convention

Join us for a one week Dance convention right here at Allegro! Come and dance Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Musical Theatre, Improvisation, Hip Hop, Danceline...With at least two classes each day, we’ll do all this and more! See the possibilities of where your dance training may one day take you! This workshop promises to be an exciting and fun week for the young, exuberant dancer. Come prepared to dance, dance, dance! Parents are invited to come and watch the last 15 minutes each day.
Girls Belly Dance Camp (closed)

Young girls are bombarded with messages about what it means to be the “ideal’ girl. Often these messages involve stereotyped images of female beauty that are unattainable and undesirable. Sadiya will teach girls about the origins of the ancient art of belly dance, still passed down from mother to daughter in many countries in the Middle East. She will infuse fun and exciting dance with positive messages about body image and physical health. Girls will dance, play games, do crafts and learn a choreography and practice improvisational dance for performance on Friday at 11:45 am. They will even make their own hip scarf.
Native Dance from India

Pratibha Verma will share the story and steps of a traditional modern folk dance from Uttar Pradesh of North India called “Chal Chhaiyya Chhaiyya” (Keep moving under the shade of love.) from the movie, “Dil Se”. In order for students to truly experience the art of Indian dance, Pratihba will provide from her personal collection of authentic costumes for students to borrow. Costume rental fee is covered in the cost of the class. A studio performance will be offered for family and friends on July 28 at 11:45 am.
